Relocating to the National Captial Region can be an intimidating prospect. Stories of traffic congestion, long commutes, high cost of living and high home prices abound.
There are any number of great options to save you money in the vast area surrounding our Nation’s Capital. You could significantly shorten your commute by living in close which would also eliminate the traffic congestion, but you’ll likely pay more for a house. The farther out you go, the more house you’ll get for your money, but your commute will increase. You’ll need to consider what’s most important to you when you make a home buying choice.
The Washington DC area is actually suprisingly affordable, with so many of the cities’ attractions cost free, commuting options abundant and walk-friendly communities many. The Washington Post releases a weekly “free things to do” list and many publications (like the Washingtonian’s annual Cheap Eats edition) are dedicated to saving you money at restaurants while still enjoying the vast array of culinary tastes the area offers. Area supermarkets, Trader Joe’s and Wegman’s, are committed to excellent quality and offer some of the lowest prices in the area.
Affordable? DC? Who knew!
I am committed to making your relocation to this great place a success!
